SEO Title Tags are a key component of SEO.

Without a well-polished SEO strategy, your website won’t stand a significant chance of being discovered organically through Google – and that’s why title tags are one very important piece to the SEO puzzle.

So, what exactly are SEO titles tags? Why are title tags important?

A title tag informs Google about what information each individual page on a website will include.

Also referred to as the HTML Title Tag, a Title Tag gives website visitors a summary of the information they’ll see (and engage with) on a certain page of your website.

For example, the Title Tag of this page is ‘SEO Title Tags: Why Title Tags are CRUCIAL for your SEO Strategy.’ This is what you should see in your web browser tab while reading this blog.

Where do SEO title tags appear?

  • Inside your web browser’s tab (Once you’ve landed on a particular web page)
  • If you share a page from a website on your Facebook page, the title tag will appear within the post
  • In the headline on search engine results pages (SERPS) above the meta description (A well-written title tag could determine whether or not someone clicks through to your website)

Title Tag Length

Caffeinate Top Tip #1: We recommend keeping your SEO title tag within 50 – 60 characters.

Google usually shows the first 50–60 characters of a title tag. Any more characters, and it’s likely your copy will appear cut off in Google search – not quite a good look for your business.

Nothing’s worse than a half-written, or half cut-off sentence. It does nothing for your advertising goals, nothing for your marketing campaign, and absolutely zero favours for the message you want to convey.

Do Title Tags Matter?

SEO Title Tag Optimization is super important – Title tags must make up part of your SEO strategy.

Caffeinate Top Tip #2: The best-written SEO title tags are the ones that incorporate well-researched SEO keywords into the mix, without sacrificing creativity and quality.

Remember, as much as we want your website to rank higher on Google, you still need people to be engaged and excited about clicking through to your website. A basic, copy-and-paste approach won’t cut it.

So while you’ll want to be targeting the keywords (and questions) people are searching in Google, never compromise on credibility, and easy-to-read, well-articulated copy.

We don’t recommend using a title tag generator because of this exact reason.

Caffeinate Top Tip #3: Do your best to avoid duplicate title tags across each page of your website. You don’t want to confuse users into not knowing which page on your website is which, or potentially risk Google pushing your website lower in its rankings due to a ‘same-same’ approach. Be unique, creative, interesting, engaging, and of course, SEO-friendly.
